The Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek is a renowned museum located in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was founded in 1888 by the brewer Carl Jacobsen, who was an enthusiastic art collector. He had a deep passion for art and culture and he used his wealth as a successful beer brewer to support the creation of the Glyptotek as a cultural institution. The museum is famous for its impressive collection of ancient Mediterranean sculptures, a collection of Greek and Roman sculptures as well as 19th and 20th-century French and Danish art and sculptures. Architecturally, the Glyptotek blends classical and modern styles, with its beautiful winter garden and striking glass dome. It has a significant role in preserving and showcasing art from ancient civilizations and the modern era, making it a key institution in the art historical landscape. The Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek’s collection is very diverse and very fascinating. It furthermore includes an extensive array of ancient artifacts, such as Egyptian mummies, which were acquired through archaeological expeditions and donations. These mummies mostly originate from ancient Egypt and reflect the museum’s interest in ancient civilizations. Thus, the museum also houses a large number of ancient Near Eastern artifacts, reflecting the global scope of Carl Jacobsen’s collecting vision. The modern part of the art collection has a significant number of works from the French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist movements. The purpose behind the museum was not only to display Carl Jacobsen’s personal art collection but also to make art and cultural heritage accessible to the public. It was intended as a space where people could appreciate and learn from art from different eras and cultures.
