License types explained

MagnificentH makes it effortless to weave museums' rich cultural treasures into your micro-museums while staying compliant with rights and exceptions.

License types

Our connected partners and museum libraries use clear rights statements to guide reuse. Here's what they mean in plain language:

CC0 or Public Domain (No Rights Reserved): Public domain dedication, which means you can use freely for any purpose, no attribution needed.

CC BY (Attribution): Remix, adapt, and share commercially or non-commercially, as long as you credit the creator and state the full license or link to it.

CC BY-SA (Attribution-ShareAlike): Like CC BY, but your adaptations must use the same license.

CC BY-NC (Attribution-NonCommercial): Reuse freely (except commercial), with attribution.

CC BY-NC-SA (Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike): Like CC BY-NC, but adaptations share alike.

CC BY-ND (Attribution-NoDerivs): Share as-is (no remixing), with attribution.

CC BY-NC-ND (Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs): Share unchanged, non-commercially, with attribution—the most restrictive.

Most images carry CC licenses like CC BY or CC BY-SA. Our platform handles attribution for connected libraries seamlessly in the "Curated with" section of every micro-museum.

Copyrighted images

Images marked "In Copyright" (or “InC”) are fully protected unless permissioned or using EU exceptions. For micro-museum stories, rely on the quotation, criticism, or review exception under the InfoSoc Directive and pair the image with your transformative curation and narrative for balanced, analytical use.

Licenses for creator uploaded images

Currently, MagnificentH does not yet include native support for automatically adding a license type to images you upload yourself. We are actively exploring the best options for this, and the feature will be introduced in the near future to make image rights management even smoother.

In the meantime, creators can indicate their preferred license type at the end of their stories or within their profile to guide proper reuse and attribution.
