Storängen is a beautiful villa district in Stockholm, celebrated as cultural heritage for its architectural homogeneity and well preserved stone- and wooden villas from the early 1900s, arranged in harmonious modernist and functionalist designs, mostly a blend of the Swedish version of Art Nouveau and National Romantic. It was actually founded as a housing project för service employees with 160 lots. Today 150 houses remain mostly unchanged. Most of the mansion were designed by architect Gustav Hugo Sandberg. Many other prominent architects of the time, such as Ragnar Östberg (who even created Stockholm´s Town hall "Stadshuset"), Albin Brag, Torben Grut, Ivar Callmander and Carl Westman contributed to the unique character of the neighborhood and villas with many wooden details, bright colors and asymmetry regarding windows and doors. The Saltsjöbana train makes a stop here since 1897, which made the area to an attractive area for business men from Stockholm to build their family homes near the city and even near the lake Järlssjön and nature and forests.
