World Press Photo - Central Tejo 2014
The World Press Photo arrived at the Museu da Electricidade in Lisbon — as part of its annual worldwide tour, organized in Portugal by the magazine Visão with the support of the EDP Foundation. The show presented the prize-winning photographs from the first, second, and third places across the eight thematic categories of the World Press Photo competition, bringing together 42 awarded works documenting events and stories from 2014. The contest that year received 97,912 photographs submitted by 5,692 photojournalists and photographers from 131 countries. The categories spanned Nature, Daily Life, Sports, Portraits, Long-Term Projects, Contemporary Issues, General News, and Spot News, offering visitors a wide panorama of the world's most significant photojournalism of the year. The exhibition featured photographs in black and white, colour, and mixed formats, captured with everything from professional cameras to mobile phones and drones, all taken by professional photographers and photojournalists documenting events and moments of 2014. The show was organized by Visão and sponsored by the EDP Foundation, hosted at the Museu da Electricidade, Central Tejo, on Avenida de Brasília in Lisbon. The Central Tejo's vast industrial hall — a former power station — provided a dramatic and atmospheric backdrop for the powerful images on display.
