Highlights on Swedish Grace, a variation of Art Deco in Sweden around 1920s.

Märta Måås-Fjetterström, Sweden’s visionary textile artist! She is an artist whose work has always felt both deeply Swedish and universally inspiring to me. She didn’t just weave beautiful rugs—she wove together stories from Swedish nature, folklore, and history, making each piece a living tapestry of her heritage. When she opened her own studio in Båstad in 1919, it was a bold move for a woman of her time, and her courage shines through in every design. What I find most captivating is how her art captures the refined simplicity of the Swedish Grace movement, blending tradition with modern elegance. Her collaborations with designers like Carl Malmsten brought her creations into royal palaces and embassies, turning her vision into a global phenomenon. Today, her studio still creates handwoven masterpieces, and her legacy continues to inspire artists and collectors everywhere. Through her work, Märta made Swedish textile art a gift to the world, one that feels as fresh and meaningful now as it did a century ago.
