Svenskt Tenn Interiors
100 years of Swedish design brilliance. In 2024, Svenskt Tenn marked its centenary, an occasion to reflect on how one interior design house helped shape Swedish modernity and the way people live with objects. Founded in 1924 by Estrid Ericson, Svenskt Tenn began as a small pewter workshop in Stockholm and grew into a defining force in Swedish interior design. Ericson’s vision rejected strict minimalism in favor of warmth, craftsmanship and interiors layered with personality and history. A central chapter in this story is her collaboration with Austrian designer Josef Frank. His expressive textiles and furniture introduced a cosmopolitan, humanistic approach to Scandinavian interiors, blending clarity with color, pattern and joy. Together, Ericson and Frank shaped a visual language that continues to influence how interiors are conceived today. Svenskt Tenn’s archive — spanning furniture, textiles, drawings and interiors — offers a record of evolving ideas around home, craftsmanship and everyday beauty (in Swedish called "vackrare vardagsvara"). Alongside its historic works, the brand has continued to collaborate with contemporary designers such as Michael Anastassiades, Luca Nichetto, Ingegerd Råman, Lars Nilsson and Fornasetti, keeping its design philosophy alive and relevant. Svenskt Tenn is ultimately a story about continuity, a belief in quality, emotional connection, and in interiors that enrich daily life over time.
