Sculpture Core of the PLMJ Foundation Collection
In 2016, the PLMJ Foundation presented the exhibition, Transitory Materials – Sculpture Core of the PLMJ Foundation Collection) at the National Society of Fine Arts (SNBA) in Lisbon, from February 4 to March 23. Curated by João Silvério, the exhibition featured a selection of works with a strong sculptural component by artists from the Lusophone world—specifically Portugal and Mozambique—drawn from the collection’s holdings, including recent acquisitions, thereby contributing to a reflection on artistic production over the last few decades. The exhibition itinerary explored the manner in which each artist engages with their material basis—navigating the transition between artistic procedure and the specific choices demanded by each work—while highlighting significant moments in the artistic affirmation of the featured artists; the exhibition was accompanied by the publication of a catalogue. The exhibition brought together works by 30 artists from Portugal and Mozambique. The complete list, published by the PLMJ Foundation, included: Alexandra Mesquita, Ângela Ferreira, Bruno Pacheco, Carlos Bunga, Carlos Pinheiro, Célia Domingues, Fernanda Fragateiro, Francisco Tropa, Gonçalo Barreiros, Gonçalo Mabunda, Hugo Canoilas, Joana Vasconcelos, João Galrão, João Paulo Feliciano, João Pedro Vale, Jorge Días, José Pedro Croft, Kester, Leonor Antunes, Noé Sendas, Nuno Sousa Vieira, Pedro Cabrita Reis, Pedro Tudela, Pedro Valdez Cardoso, Raquel Feliciano, Ricardo Jacinto, Rita Sobral Campos, Rodrigo Oliveira, Rui Chafes, Rui Sanches, Susana Anágua, Susana Gaudêncio, and Teresa Henriques.
