Rick Eggert. & Harry Pollitt Glass Work
Waves frozen at their crest, Rick Eggert’s blown-glass pieces read like delicate, crystalline sculptures. By capturing motion in flowing tendrils, his works are often grouped to play across subtle gradations of color and complementary shapes. Eggert is currently the Creative Director of the Benzaiten Center for Creative Arts in Lake Worth, Florida, a full-service glass studio that offers classes, studio rentals, and workshops. Wood was sculptor Harry Pollitt’s first passion, and his early work favored the sensuous curves inspired by the hairpin turns and S-curves he loved while driving cars and motorcycles. After meeting a glass artist and observing the casting process, he shifted from wood’s weight and opacity to glass’s transparency and fragility. Pollitt begins with a solid block of wax, slowly and meticulously carving away material to form the shapes he will cast in glass, then hand-sands each finished piece to achieve a velvety, textured surface.
