Announced annually at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, the award recognizes outstanding contemporary achievements around the world. In recent years, the museum category has highlighted institutions that transform the traditional museum experience through innovative architecture, sensitive integration with their surroundings, and a strong sense of place. The museums honored by Prix Versailles over the past decade form a remarkable panorama of contemporary museum design. More recent selections include the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Norway’s Kunstsilo, and the Zayed National Museum. Together, these institutions demonstrate how the world’s most beautiful museums are no longer merely repositories of collections but architectural landmarks that enrich their cities and inspire visitors through design as much as through the treasures they contain.
