Portuguese design, as represented in the MUDE Museu do Design e da Moda, reflects a rich dialogue between tradition and modernity. The museum’s collection highlights key figures such as Daciano da Costa, a pioneer of modern industrial and interior design in Portugal, known for his refined, functional furniture and public-space projects. Another important name is Eduardo Afonso Dias, whose work helped shape graphic and product design during the 20th century. These designers helped establish a distinctly Portuguese design language—one that values craftsmanship, clarity, and subtle innovation while remaining connected to international modernist movements. The museum also showcases contemporary designers like Fernando Brízio and Nini Andrade Silva, who bring fresh perspectives to product and interior design. Brízio is known for his conceptual approach and experimental objects that challenge everyday functionality, while Andrade Silva has gained international recognition for her luxurious and nature-inspired interiors. Together, these designers illustrate the evolution of Portuguese design from its modernist roots to a globally relevant creative field, where tradition, innovation, and artistic identity continue to intersect.
