Oulu
Oulu in northern Finland is a European Capital of Culture in 2026. Founded in 1605, Oulu has developed over the centuries to become a major industrial and port city. In 1822, a fire destroyed a lot of the city, especially the centre which was built from wood. As a result, a new city plan was developed by architect Carl Ludvig Engel, with many neoclassical buildings. Here is a selection of buildings and architecture from Oulu.
