National Maritime Museum of Greenwich
The National Maritime Museum in Greenwich is Britain’s leading institution for maritime history and one of the core sites of Royal Museums Greenwich. Housed beside the Royal Observatory presents a wide-ranging collection of ship models, navigational instruments, maps, paintings, and seafaring artefacts that trace global voyages, naval warfare, exploration, and maritime cultures. It displays balanced grand historical narratives—empires, trade and naval power—with personal stories of sailors, migrants and coastal communities. In 2016, the museum focused commemorative activity around key naval anniversaries and wartime remembrance, alongside ongoing initiatives to interpret its collections, and maintained partnerships with universities and community organisations to connect maritime history to trade, technology and cultural exchange.
