Manuel de Brito Art Center at Anjos Palace
The Centro de Arte Manuel de Brito (CAMB) at Palácio Anjos in Algés, near Lisbon, is one of Portugal's most distinctive contemporary art venues, operating the Manuel de Brito collection of modern and contemporary art, alongside recreational and educational activities. The collection, assembled by the Brito family over decades, features works by major figures of Portuguese art, including Paula Rego, Graça Morais, António Dacosta, Palolo, Ana Vidigal, Eduardo Luiz, Eduardo Batarda, Júlio Pomar, and Menez — with the aura of the historic palace providing a harmonious counterpoint to the contemporary works within. By 2014, CAMB was running an active multi-exhibition programme that drew on the breadth and depth of the collection. Among the exhibitions presented around this period was "Artistas de Angola e de Moçambique na Coleção Manuel de Brito, which brought together paintings, sculptures, photographs, and drawings by Angolan and Mozambican artists — including António Ole and Francisco Vidal, both of whom later represented Angola at the 2015 Venice Biennale — with works spanning from 1964 to 2014.
