Lumina Fest awarded European Best Cultural Event 2014
The 2014 edition of Lumina Festival da Luz — the third instalment of the annual event — took place in Cascais from September 12 to 14, 2014, featuring works from artists across numerous countries spread along the "Path of Light," a walking circuit designed to offer moments of discovery, magic, and emotion. The festival drew an estimated 400,000 visitors over its three nights, with 26 installations by international artists transforming the ordinary into the fantastical through mind-blowing video displays, light installations, and sculptures. That year, Lumina was awarded Best Cultural Event and was named by The Guardian as one of the Top 10 Light Festivals in Europe. The 2015 edition, the festival's fourth, ran from September 11 to 13 and took as its theme the four seasons of the year, offering visitors a circuit distributed over four sequential routes, each evoking a different season through dynamic multimedia installations, monumental video projections, interactive sculptures, and participatory works. More than 40 artists from 15 countries participated, including, for the first time, artists from Australia, the United States, Turkey, and Spain. The edition also carried special significance on the international stage: OCUBO, the producing studio behind Lumina, was an official partner of the UNESCO International Year of Light 2015, and the festival was one of the official events integrated into those global celebrations.
