Little Mermaid - Copenhagen´s Famous Iron Lady
The Little Mermaid is an iconic sculpture in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was created by the Danish sculptor Edvard Eriksen and was unveiled in 1913. The sculpture was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s famous fairy tale of the same name. It depicts a mermaid who sacrifices everything for love, the fairytale reflects on themes as longing and transformation. Edvard Eriksen´s wife, Eline Eriksen, modeled for the mermaid’s upper body.
