Lisbon Architecture Triennale 2007

The first edition of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale took place in 2007 under the theme "Urban Voids," marking the beginning of what would become a major international forum for architectural debate. The event was led by chief curator José Mateus, who coordinated a team of 23 national and international curators. This inaugural edition featured four exhibitions, an international conference, a lounge, and five competitions. This first edition established the format that the Triennale would maintain in subsequent editions, combining exhibitions, debates, and competitions into a multidisciplinary program dedicated to reflecting on the contemporary city. The success and impact of this initial edition cemented Lisbon as the regular venue for this triennial event—which returned in 2010 (with the theme "Let's Talk About Houses," curated by Delfim Sardo), 2013 ("Close, Closer"), and in subsequent editions—steadily gaining greater international prominence and recognition within the landscape of contemporary architecture.
