Kings and Queens Caricatures - Norberto Nunes
The National Coach Museum (Museu Nacional dos Coches) in Lisbon presented the painting exhibition Reis e Rainhas de Portugal by Norberto Nunes. The museum's anniversary date, 23 May, was chosen to host the exhibition, which is composed of 35 paintings representing the four dynasties that ruled Portugal until 1910. The Kings and Queens series is notably playful and caricature-like in spirit — combining art and history in a recreational and somewhat unexpected way. Norberto Bernardo Nunes was born on 16 May 1942 in Pedrógão Grande, in the Litoral region of Portugal. He moved to Lisbon at age 2, where he later attended the António Arroio School of Decorative Arts and studied painting under Master Roberto Araújo at the National Society of Fine Arts. His early professional life was shaped by his talent for drawing, and he worked for several years as an illustrator before transitioning into animation and advertising film.
