Nestled in Lisbon's historic Alfama quarter, Palacete Chafariz d'el Rei is a stunning Neo-Moorish palace dating back to the end of the 19th century, featuring magnificent stained-glass windows and opulent Brazilian Art Nouveau interiors that have been meticulously preserved through careful restoration. The building was originally constructed by Lisbon native João António Santos, who returned from an inspiring stint in Brazil in 1909 and built the mansion on the outskirts of Alfama his showmanship a topic of conversation among aristocratic circles at the time. Today it has been thoughtfully updated in a way that blends respect for history with a quirky modern design sensibility, offering just six suites, each with a distinct look, while the flagship Grand Torreão Grandious suite sprawls across three floors and features a terrace with panoramic views and a telescope. Guests can relax in the wood-paneled library, admire the Art Deco interior of the Espelhos Gallery, and enjoy breakfast in the restored dining room overlooking the terraced gardens, all with luxurious views of the Tagus River.
