Costume & Fashion
The National Costume Museum (Museu Nacional do Traje) in Lisbon is a cultural institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history of Portuguese dress and textile traditions. Opened in 1977, the museum is housed in the elegant Angeja-Palmela Palace, set within the expansive Monteiro-Mor Botanical Park. Its collections include tens of thousands of garments and accessories dating from the 18th century to the present, illustrating the evolution of fashion across different social classes and historical periods. Much of the collection has been built through donations, resulting in a rich and diverse representation of clothing, particularly from aristocratic and bourgeois contexts.
