Asia Art Week NY 2011
Asia Week New York 2011, held from March 18–26, marked a significant milestone in the event's young history. That year, the organizing body was officially renamed the Asia Week New York Association, giving the event a formal institutional identity. The week brought together an unprecedented collaboration of 34 Asian art specialists, 5 auction houses, and 18 Asian cultural institutions and museums across the metropolitan New York area, presenting works ranging from ancient to contemporary across Chinese, Himalayan, Indian, Japanese, Korean, and Southeast Asian traditions. The week opened with a memorable reception at the Asia Society, setting a tone of cultural prestige that ran throughout the event, with thousands of ancient and contemporary Asian works of art on view. The week also took on an awareness dimension; guests and participants were invited to a reception, a lecture, and an exhibition tour at the Japan Society.
