ARCOmadrid 2011 was a landmark edition of Spain's International Contemporary Art Fair, held in Madrid and marking the fair's 30th anniversary under its new director, Carlos Urroz. The edition brought together 197 galleries from 21 countries, organized into several sections: a General Programme of 117 galleries, an ARCO 40 subsection, and new additions including Solo Projects: Focus Latin America featuring 14 galleries selected by curators Luisa Duarte, Daniela Pérez, and Julieta González, and Opening: New European Galleries, showcasing 19 emerging galleries open for less than eight years. Russia served as the guest country, with 8 Russian galleries integrated throughout the exhibition halls. To celebrate three decades of activity, ARCO 2011 presented a special anniversary exhibition coordinated by Andrés Mengs, featuring archival images from each edition and artworks on loan from institutions such as the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea, DA2 Domus Artium Salamanca, and the Coca-Cola Foundation. High-profile institutions, including the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Tate Gallery, and the Maison Rouge, attended with purchasing committees, while prominent art world figures such as Hans Ulrich Obrist, Rosa Martínez, and Marta Gili participated in the Professional Encounters programme.
