75 years of Spanish News Agency - EFE

EFE News Agency's 75th anniversary was celebrated in 2014 (the agency was founded in 1939), and to mark the anniversary, a total of 81 events were organized, of which 22 took place in Madrid, 36 in different autonomous communities, 21 in America, 1 in Portugal, and another one in Andorra — with 67 of those events being exhibitions. EFE: 75 Anos em Fotos was part of a broad commemorative programme that used photography as one of its key elements, displaying the most stunning images broadcast by the news agency across its years of operation, shown in different regions of Spain as well as several Latin American countries. Bringing the exhibition to Lisbon's City Hall was a natural choice given EFE's longstanding presence in Portugal, where the agency has maintained its Lisbon bureau for decades as part of its global network. The exhibition offered Lisbon audiences a visual journey through 75 years of world history as seen through EFE's lens. The show condensed the agency's life into 75 photographs, drawn from an archive of 17 million images, capturing landmark moments across the globe. The exhibition included international images covering the most important events of the 20th and early 21st centuries, alongside photographs dedicated specifically to the host country, all captured by the journalists of the world's leading Spanish-language news agency.
