Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum sits in the Andrew Carnegie Mansion at 2 East 91st Street in NY, and it remains the only Smithsonian institution dedicated entirely to historical and contemporary design. Its collection spans product and graphic design, fashion, textiles, digital design, wallcoverings, and architecture, and it's known for interactive features like the Immersion Room, where visitors can project wallpaper patterns onto the gallery walls. A major new long-term installation, "Design Across Time: Exploring the Smithsonian's Design Collection," opened summer 2026 across the entire first floor of the Carnegie Mansion, bringing out significant works from storage for expanded public view.
