The 2010 Lisbon Architecture Triennale

The 2010 Lisbon Architecture Triennale was the event's second edition, running from September 14, 2010, to January 16, 2011, under the general curatorship of Delfim Sardo. The theme, "Falemos de Casas" (Let's Talk About Houses), drew on a line from a poem by Portuguese poet Herberto Helder; the underlying concept was to debate the issue of housing—both in the literal sense and in the broader sense of inhabiting the world—including its sociological and cultural aspects. The program featured four exhibitions, an international conference, and four competitions held across various city venues, including the Berardo Collection Museum, the EDP Foundation – Electricity Museum, the MNAC – Chiado Museum, and the Cascais Cultural Center. The main exhibition, "Falemos de Casas: Entre o Norte e o Sul" (Let's Talk About Houses: Between North and South), took place at the Berardo Museum and explored an "interstitial zone" between poles of Portuguese architecture. Architects highlighted in the exhibition included Delfim Amorim, Fernão Simões de Carvalho, Maria João Teles Grilo, José Forjaz, Pancho Guedes, and Una Arquitectos. The Triennale also organized competitions in partnership with the EDP Foundation at the Electricity Museum and concluded with an international conference titled "Architecture [in] ]out[ Politics" at the Aula Magna, marking the end of the second edition's program with a multidisciplinary debate on architecture and politics. This edition attracted 154,357 visitors and also marked the year the Triennale was granted "Cultural Interest" status by the Ministry of Culture.
