I went back to Japan once, in 1974. Everything had changed so much that even when I talked with my cousins, our conversations didn’t make much sense—we were completely out of sync. And Japanese people have become so comfortable and prosperous now that they weren’t really curious or interested in hearing about life in America anymore.
