Museum of Fine Arts Boston Modern Art collection
In December 2025, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, unveiled a suite of new galleries dedicated to modern art. Four new spaces opened on the first floor of the Evans Wing, joined by a second-floor sculpture gallery that had opened in mid-2025, together showcasing works from the 20th century, including highlights from the MFA's own holdings, new acquisitions, and rarely seen loans from private collections. The installations pair major 20th-century figures in dialogue, while two additional galleries are organized thematically. Artists represented across the galleries include Henri Matisse, Piet Mondrian, Paul Gauguin, Jean Arp, Louise Bourgeois, Alexander Calder, Alberto Giacometti, Louise Nevelson, Isamu Noguchi, and Pablo Picasso, alongside Surrealists like René Magritte and Remedios Varo. The presentation continues to evolve: after the initial installations, new rotations in June 2026 shifted to international Cubism and postwar abstraction, and further are planned into 2027.
