SCOPE New York 2013, held at the historic Skylight at Moynihan Station in Manhattan, was one of the key satellite fairs of Armory Week and a major platform for emerging contemporary art. The fair marked a significant move to the former James A. Farley Post Office building, transforming the vast industrial space into a dynamic exhibition venue. More than 55 international galleries participated alongside 20 galleries in SCOPE’s renowned Breeder Program, which was designed to introduce promising young galleries and artists to a broader market. Exhibitors came from four continents and eighteen countries, reinforcing SCOPE’s reputation as an international showcase for new contemporary voices. Beyond traditional gallery presentations, SCOPE 2013 emphasized multidisciplinary creativity, incorporating projects that crossed into design, fashion, film, music, and performance. Critics noted the strong presence of street art and urban-inspired works, reflecting the fair’s commitment to innovative and accessible contemporary practices. The labyrinthine setting of Moynihan Station provided a dramatic backdrop for large-scale installations and experimental presentations, creating an energetic contrast to the more established blue-chip fairs taking place elsewhere in the city.
