The 2017 FIX Photo Festival
The 2017 FIX Photo Festival transformed the industrial interiors of the Bargehouse at the Oxo Tower Wharf on London’s South Bank into a vibrant showcase of contemporary photography. Held in May and curated by Laura Noble, the festival brought together photographers from four continents, presenting more than 300 works across four floors. The exhibition was organized around the themes of Identity, Community, Unity & Harmony, and Environment, reflecting artists’ responses to the social and political changes that had shaped the previous year. By combining fine art photography, documentary work, portraiture, and street photography, the festival highlighted the breadth and diversity of contemporary photographic practice. The Bargehouse itself played a significant role in the festival’s success. Its raw architectural character and riverside location offered an alternative to the conventional white-cube gallery, creating an immersive environment that encouraged exploration and discovery. Alongside established names such as Chris Steele-Perkins and Mischa Haller, FIX Photo also championed emerging photographers, providing them with a prominent platform within London's busy photography season, making FIX Photo Festival 2017 an accessible and engaging celebration of photography’s power to connect people and explore contemporary issues.
