The Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2019 took place in February at Stockholmsmässan, drawing around 700 exhibiting companies, foreign buyers, architects, designers, and journalists from more than 100 countries. Billed as the world's leading event for Scandinavian design, the fair occupied 70,000 square metres, with roughly 80 percent of exhibitors hailing from the Nordic region. The fair and its associated off-schedule events are collectively branded as Stockholm Design Week. Standout recurring themes across the fair included bold rugs, retro influences, and environmentally conscious innovations. The fair's Design Bar, conceived by Norwegian studio Anderssen & Voll, drew on Scandinavian atrium architecture and Japanese aesthetics, with a structure encircling an intimate courtyard that served as both a restaurant and the venue for Stockholm Design & Architecture Talks, whose theme for 2019 was "Challenges for the Future." BAUX took home the Editor's Choice Award for best stand, showcasing the world's first fully biodegradable sound-absorbent material, Acoustic Pulp, which made its debut at the fair.
