Inaugurated in 2001, the Yokohama Triennale is an international exhibition of contemporary art that features internationally prominent artists along with up-and-coming figures, and presents the latest trends and expressions in contemporary art. The exhibition features both internationally renowned and up-and-coming artists, and presents the latest trends and expressions in contemporary art. The edition also aspired to serve as one of the best introductory guides to contemporary art, engaging the public through programs and events stretching across Yokohama from the central station to the Motomachi​/​Chinatown and Yamate districts The 8th Yokohama Triennale, titled Wild Grass: Our Lives, ran in 2024 at the Yokohama Museum of Art, the Former Daiichi Bank Yokohama Branch, and BankART KAIKO. The exhibition featured 93 artists and groups from 31 countries and regions, with 20 new commissions, organized into seven thematic chapters. The title was drawn from the work of Chinese writer Lu Xun (1881–1936), whose anthology Wild Grass written between 1924 and 1926 during a turbulent period in Chinese history found a thin thread of hope in times of despair. The artistic directors were Beijing-based curators Liu Ding and Carol Yinghua Lu.
