A Partir do Surrealismo was a collective exhibition drawing from the Millennium BCP Collection, held at the Galeria Millennium on Rua Augusta in Lisbon, open to the public free of charge until January 6, 2017. Curated by Raquel Henriques da Silva, the show brought together works by eight artists Cruzeiro Seixas, Mário Cesariny, António Dacosta, Carlos Calvet, Marcelino Vespeira, Eduardo Luiz, Paula Rego, and Graça Morais all of whom, while not all strictly Surrealists, shared a figurative and imaginative approach to painting that transformed reality through dreamlike, oneiric imagery. The exhibition was made all the more distinctive by its fusion with a second, site-specific show (Land)scaping Normative Thinking by painter Rui Macedo which intervened directly upon the works of the first. Macedo's concept was to treat the gallery as if his own exhibition had been there first, only to then be "taken over" by the Millennium Collection's works; his pieces were scattered throughout the three floors of the gallery, framing and protecting the Surrealist works in a kind of artistic dialogue between the two exhibitions.
