Neo-Realism - Focus on the Common Person
The Neo-Realism Museum, located in Vila Franca de Xira, is a unique cultural space in Portugal dedicated to preserving and promoting one of the most significant artistic and literary movements in 20th-century Portuguese cultural history. The collection presents a retrospective overview of the Neo-Realist movement, encompassing a vast array of literary works, video media, paintings, musical works, and journalistic documents. Standing out within the visual arts holdings are the artistic estates of figures such as José Dias Coelho, Francisco Castro Rodrigues, Jorge de Oliveira, and Vasco Pereira da Conceição—among other major names in 20th-century Portuguese art. Currently, the Neo-Realism Museum is moving beyond the boundaries of its original thematic scope to position itself, increasingly, within the broader landscape of 20th-century ideas and culture, establishing connections with other literary, artistic, and intellectual currents.
