Roy Lichtenstein and Pop Art
The 8th edition of "Art Arrived at Colombo" was dedicated to Roy Lichtenstein, one of the fathers of Pop Art and one of the most important artists of the 20th century—and who, curiously, had never before had a solo exhibition in Portugal. Titled "Roy Lichtenstein and Pop Art," the exhibition brought together 41 works, organized into four chronological sections—Pop, Landscapes, Homages, and Posters—allowing visitors to follow the artist's creative evolution from the most emblematic works of his pop phase to the final years of his career. Among the featured works were Crying Girl, Whaam!, and As I Opened Fire. The 41 pieces allowed visitors to discover multiple facets of the artist: the homages to Pablo Picasso, the posters for music festivals—a reminder of his origins as a musician—and the iconic pop compositions featuring pin-ups in a post-war setting. The ambassador for this edition was the Portuguese artist Rueffa, whose work in the Neo Pop Art universe established a natural connection with the theme, and the exhibited works belonged to the collection of the Spanish collector Joseluis Rupérez, in an initiative produced by State of the Art.
