I went to Copenhagen last year for 3 Days of Design Event, which I wanted to combine with my usual discovery hunt of rare architectural gems. And here I found it, just as I stepped out of the train that took me from the airport to the central station. This a stunning example of National Romantisism, a style in architecture (and culture) prevailing from the late 19th century into the early 20th and with “a peak” in the time period 1900 to 1920. The Copenhagen Central Station (København H) was designed by Heinrich Wenck a "gesamtkunstwerk".Meaning Wenck designed nearly everything. From the main construction to the decor details including the door handles! There are beautiful wooden arch constructions in the departure and arrival halls. On the outside, the arch theme is extended, now in materials including brick, slate and granite. Train stations are busy but if you are not in great hurry take a few minutes for a stroll. And look up! Amazing architecture and so photogenic ;)
