Hector Guimard's Métropolitain subway entrances are certainly one of the most iconic pieces of Art Nouveau designs. When in Paris, look for a series of distinctive cast iron structures marking the subway locations that have become synonymous with the city of Paris image. Design elements of these iconic entrances feature organic, almost fluid lines inspired by nature - embodying the essence of the Art Nouveau movement. Made in cast iron construction that was painted in a weathered green hue and with station names written in distinctive lettering spelling out "Métropolitain" or "Métro". There are three different types of entrances; pavilions (known as "pagode"), glass canopies (édicules) and cast iron balustrades. Here, you'll find some of the photos of these iconic architectural symbols of Paris, now protected as historical monuments of the city.
